I work as the Director of IT for a small school district in Arizona. Because of my proximity to the educational process, I’m constantly looking for ways to integrate new technologies. I think the Web 2.0 philosophy has a lot to offer education and I’d really like to see it more in the classrooms. Let kids have blogs and utilize video, txt messaging, etc. I’ve even heard of political science teachers using games like Civilizations to teach economic principals.
Today, I heard a radio report on the NPR program Here and Now about a college in Texas that is purchasing iPhones for its students. It’s great to see this kind of thinking put to the test. I really hope this program is successful.
Our kids are using these technologies every day, why can’t we figure out more effective ways to get them into the classroom?
